3 tips for lower back injury prevention
Eighty percent of the population will experience lower back pain at least once. The pain will prevent them from temporally working and is the most common reason for a sick day. A good Swedish massage will help!
What can be done to prevent lower back pain? Here is my list of 10 easy tips to prevent injury and ensure optimum spinal health.
1. If you sit than stand up! Many of us have sedentary jobs. Take brief breaks to walk and stand. Sitting compresses the spine and degenerates our spine. Another good solution is a stand up desk.
2. Don’t forget to stretch. Taking as little as 3 to 5 minutes to stretch the lower back, hamstrings, and hip flexors is all you need to elongate the shortened muscles. Hold each stretch for one minute. Sitting shortens all of the above muscles and stretching does the opposite.
3. Use proper form when lifting objects. For example, when lifting a box off the floor make sure to use your legs and pull the object towards your chest. Not following this rule is the most common cause for lower back pain. Let your legs do the work!
